Student Poster Session at the Fall Anodizing Conference

The Aluminum Anodizers Council (AAC) invites students, coops and interns engaged in electrochemistry, metallurgy, chemistry, materials science, metal forming, waste treatment, electrodes and related engineering disciplines to present their work at a poster session during the Anodizing Conference in October. This two-day (October 2 & 3) comprehensive event offers education, information and networking geared specifically to the anodizing community. AAC is a trade association that supports the science, technology, and business of light metal surface finishing, principally aluminum anodizing.

The AAC Student Poster Session provides a forum where students may present their research in anodizing, surface science, surface treatment, electrochemical finishing, metal forming, waste treatment, electrical chemistry, engineering, electrode and other relevant technologies to an interested audience of industry professionals. The goal is to present academic and industrial-related research and development in the field of metal surface science and technology.

Suggested poster topics include but are not limited to:

  • Surface modification of aluminum and aluminum alloys by way of anodic oxidation
  • Applications of the anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) as a stand-alone finish or as a template for nanostructures
  • Oxide growth processes and studies on other light metals, including magnesium and titanium
  • Dye chemistry, formulation, color and application processes
  • Chemistry of aluminum oxides and hydroxides surfaces
  • Other light metal surface modification processes and techniques
  • Novel analyses and test methods for light metals surfaces
  • New ways to implement existing methods and applications.
The relevance of the content to the anodizing industry will be strongly considered in the prize judging.

Conference Poster Session

The AAC Student Poster Session is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, October 1 and 2, 2024. Students will display their Posters on Tuesday afternoon just outside the Expo Hall. Conference attendees will view the posters and interact with students. On Wednesday we will have a session where students will give an abbreviated power point presentation along with a poster on display, with 10 minutes for presenting and 5 minutes for Q&A. Students will be expected to present their power point, poster, and to explain their research. We suggest 4 slides and the poster must be a slide in the power point. Students will be asked to submit a brief abstract. As usual, we will have a $500 prize for the top 3 presentations, and fees for the conference registration for students are waived.

An exact schedule of Poster Session times will be provided to accepted students prior to the Conference.

The AAC Academic Committee or their designees will judge the posters, and a $500 prize will be awarded to each of the three best poster presentations.

If the Student is unable to travel arrangements will be made for them to present their power point virtually. All students will be expected to prepare and send an electronic poster that will be displayed at the conference.

Abstract Content, Style and Submission Guidelines

Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to submit an abstract for consideration. Students should follow the guidelines outlined below for their Student Poster Session Abstract.
Length: Abstracts for poster presentation should not exceed 200 words.
Due Date: Abstracts should be submitted by September 13, 2024

Poster Guidelines
Each submitted abstract must include the following and carefully adhere to these guidelines:
  • Title: Complete poster presentation title must be concise and descriptive and must be capitalized, including subtitle.
  • Author(s): List the full first and last names of each author, with the presenting author listed first and include his/her affiliation information below this item. Use superscripts to identify multiple authors with different affiliations.
  • Presenters: Provide full contact information including name, address, phone number, and e-mail.
  • Instructor information: Include the name, address, phone number and e-mail of your academic advisor or professor.
  • Body of Abstract: Abstracts must not exceed 200 words and should include a short, concise summary of the planned poster presentation. Emphasize the results of the research or the practical application of the work.
  • Keywords: Capitalize all KEYWORDS and include no more than three.

Submission

Abstracts must be submitted electronically by attaching the Microsoft® Word file containing the abstract to an e-mail message. Along with the abstract, send a short statement of intent to participate and proof of student status (copy of current registration, letter from academic advisor, etc.).

Students will be notified if their abstracts are accepted. No material release or exclusivity agreements required. Students are free to present submitted material elsewhere.

Poster Prizes

Judging will take place immediately after the session and authors of the three power points and posters judged best will be announced during the Wednesday Morning General Session.

Students participating in this event will have their conference fees waived.
